Then the drop is the sexiest Bassnectar - Timestretch inspired production I've ever heard in my life. 10/10 perfection, this might just be my favorite SSKWAN release yet and I can't even believe I'm saying that because the label has such high quality releases.

Shortly following his WAKAAN inauguration, underground bass star Ravenscoon is making his way to its brother label for his SSKWAN debut with illanthropy. “Drowning” is an emotional piece inspired by the trials and tribulations over the past year. Dazzling synths breathe life into hazardous bass waters, evoking feelings of ambition and hope to those who may feel too deep under.

"’Drowning’ is the culmination of a million feelings from the last year and a half. When I first started writing the song I knew that it was missing a key component, and that it needed to change direction into something larger than what it originally was intended for (which was an interlude song). I sent it over to Stephen (illanthropy.), knowing that he and I have a special connection when it comes to writing music.

“We both had and have been dealing with a lot of mental distress from the pandemic and all of the troubles of the last year, and felt that the song should feel immense, powerful, uplifting, and very emotional. Stephen is an absolute genius producer and the final product that we ended up with really encapsulates feelings of drowning, but also of coming up above the water, safe and sound. I think that ‘Drowning’ is a sound that a lot of people really need to hear right now, and feel that this song can hopefully offer hope, and even closure, from a really difficult time in all of our lives."

“‘Drowning’ presented itself as an opportunity to express the social, emotional, and spiritual struggles I have had over the past year or so. I have experienced a lot of heartbreak and trauma that was unavoidable, and it made me pretty reclusive for some time. In those periods of being reclusive, I cycled through stages of grief and mania and felt emotions I had never felt… It literally felt like I was drowning. When [Ravenscoon] sent me the first draft, it took me some time to feel inspired and dive in… Once I did, inspiration came pouring out of me like a waterfall. I write so many songs that I am happy with, but sometimes certain songs just strike a nerve. This was one of those songs. It felt so good to pour myself and everything I was feeling into this song. Paul and I work so well together, it just comes easy. We have worked on music before and have a foundational respect for each other’s talents and visions. Seeing these efforts come into fruition in a song like ‘Drowning’ is so vindicating and beautiful.”
